This incredibly interesting book takes the reader into the deep blue to explore numerous squid facts, including habitat, physical characteristics, diet, and defense mechanisms as well as other squid facts. The reader is presented with facts and questions for further pondering and research. This book is a rightfully-earned Sibert Honor book.  The rich vocabulary and poetic descriptions summon the reader to explore the mystery of the giant squid.  Fleming's descriptions used in the text paint a vivid picture for the reader, using phrases like "terrifying tongue-like ribbon of muscle" and "suckers ringed with saw-like teeth" will certainly capture the attention of those students who a bit of "scary" reading.
